This weekend Martin Stoyanov at 7 Laghi tested his 100 Junior race kart. The weather was fantastic and the track conditions were also quite good. Marti managed to turn a lot of laps and he was quite happy with his new chassis which is a bit different to the one he was training with previously. This was his last chance to test before the start of the season of EasyKart at Ala on 7/8th March. Almost all the drivers will go testing at the official pre-race test day on the Thursday and Friday next week, one week before the race, but Marti will have to miss out on this test because his father Miro will be busy working on the GT3 cars as it’s coinciding with testing at Paul Ricard. In addition to that, again due to testing commitments this time at Monza, Marti will have to miss the official free practice sessions on the Friday of the Ala race weekend. Luckily, the next Saturday Marti will be again testing X30 Junior.
During the test at 7 Laghi Marti had the opportunity to try the new KZ Junior kart developed by Birel ART. He had just 15 short minutes in it and his times were not representable because in this short time he had to get used to changing the gears. He will need a proper full test with this kart.
KZ Junior is having an 80cc Seven engine with 25 hp and 6 gears. It is a category with great potential because, if you want to go racing in single-seaters you will have to learn to drive changing the gears. There is one notable negative though, the kart only has rear brakes and the driver can’t be braking as aggressively as in single-seaters. We are hoping that Marti will have the chance to race at least once in this category already this season!
