This Friday 15.05, Marti tested at Wollen in Switzerland with an X30 class kart. The weather forecast was for rain, but it did not materialize. In the morning it was cool and damp, but the track got dry fast and the conditions were good throughout the whole day.
Wollen is an interesting track, but quite bumpy which makes it a great test for the physical condition of the driver. After a few warm-up sessions and then some setup evaluation, Marti had the chance for the very first time to drive the X30 on new tires. This is the direction we want to work towards – getting everything out of a new set of tires for qualifying. We want to do this because last year Martin was always quite fast in the wet or in low grip conditions, but during qualifying with new tires he wasn’t always capable of using the tires at their peak performance. At the end of the test day at Wollen we had covered 200 laps and it was a very productive test.
The next day, Saturday 16.05 we went to the track in Lyss which on 13.06 is expected to host the Kapellen Trophy. At Lyss we had to share the track with motorcycles, so the time was divided into sessions in which all karts from KZ2 to Mini had to drive together! This was creating a lot of traffic problems. During the day Martin drove with two types of tires – red LeCont which is going to be used in Kapellen Trophy and blue Vega, used in Vega Trofeo. The afternoon was spent on long runs in order to check Martin’s fitness level and his long-run pace.
Next week we will continue with the same program – Friday at Wollen with Saturday at Lyss.
Our racing program is still not determined. In June we hope that the aforementioned Kapellen Trophy will take place, Vega Trofeo already announced their new dates for September and October, but we are waiting for the other championships to announce their dates and then we will make our own program.
