This was yet another successful race for Marti at Lyss for the Kapellen Trophy. Once again Marti had to drive in the X30 Senior class, but this time out he managed to get to the podium!
The day started slowly because Marti hadn’t been in a kart for a month and thus he was just P7 in the free practice session.
In time for qualifying he was getting into the groove and managed to improve to P4 and just 0.3 sec. away from the pole-position time. Marti was happy with the kart and there was no need for any setup changes for the races.
In the first manche he managed to sneak past into P2 at the start. He managed to keep the position till the end of the race. In the process, just like he did at the previous race at Levier, he also improved his time from qualifying by 0.2 sec.
In the second manche Marti started from the first row of the grid, but the start was quite hairy. He lost one position which he couldn’t find a way to get back till the end.
For the final Marti made a great start, took P2 and defended it very well from all the local drivers who were driving Swiss Hutless. It’s worth noting that Lyss is the home track for Swiss Hutless as their chassis factory is situated just outside the circuit.
We are happy that Marti’s development moves in the right direction and this well deserved podium is earned in just Marti’s second race in a Senior kart, and just his 4th race in a big kart! Remember, all the drivers in the race were at least some 3-4 years older than him.
But that was not all. After the final in Kappelen Trophy there was a rental karts race called 24 Runden with the prize a Certina watch. For this race Marti was in a kart he knew quite well and he took pole-position, broke the track record and won the race! This result came after a nice fight against an old foe of Marti from the Swiss Karting League – Jan Baumann.
After the second place in Senior X30, this win and the nice watch were a perfect ending to the day!
