After a very long summer pause, Marti was back behind the wheel of his kart for the 3rd round of the Kappelen Trophy organized on the Lyss kart track.
The lack of training for Marti was not evident, quite the opposite, he banged pole-position against a pretty strong field without being at his best. Sadly though, the lack of recent racing experience was quite evident right away after the start of the first race.
Marti made a good start and he was leading, but just after half a lap he tried to take a corner flat without taking into consideration the low tire temperature and he went off the track. When he rejoined he was last and half a lap behind the next guy! Of course this didn’t discourage him and he managed to climb up to 12th with the fastest lap under his name.
His competitive spirit and will to win took over his rational thinking, this is a mistake he will learn from to find the sweet spot between maximum attack and reasonable driving.
In the second race he had to start from 12th, made a series of overtakes climbing to 4th. But the more impressive part of his performance was that he was once again with the fastest lap, but he also managed to match his qualifying pole-position time! Marti was getting faster & faster with every lap he was driving!
For the third big final race, the grid was setup by adding the points of the two races which meant P7 for Marti on the grid. Once again he was on the attack and very soon was in the battle for P3. Then on the third lap after an accident, he had to retire from the final race.
Lyss is a circuit which is very well known by Marti and after the long summer pause he showed that he was getting faster and progressing by the lap, but he’s lacking racing experience to convert his natural speed into race wins.
