During the first weekend of April the Czech circuit Most was host to the first round of the Carbonia Cup. The expectations were for cold & wet weekend.

There were four 20 min practice sessions on Saturday in mixed conditions during which Marti as expected was very fast in the wet, but also quite competitive in the dry.

The Sunday began with a couple more wet sessions during which Marti was fastest in his F4 class, while in the general he was only slower than 5x Carbonia Cup champion Jan Rieger in a much faster Formula Renault 2.0.

In the afternoon qualy the track was drying up and a dry line was beginning to appear, but it was still quite cold making the tire choice difficult. Half of the cars were on slicks, while the rest chose wets. Marti typically chose the slicks.

During the qualy he gaves his all pushing to the limit risking it all & he won his first pole position, both in his class & in the overall! Rieger had some car issues, but still Marti’s speed was apparent for everyone to see on the drying track.

For the race the track was already dry, but the weather was still quite cold. Some of the drivers had tire warmers giving them a massive advantage at the start.

It was going to be a tough start and expectedly one of the more powerful Formula Renaults outdragged Marti at the start to lead before T1. In his never give up style Marti tried braking later and carrying more speed in the first turn, but his tires were too cold to bear this load and Marti spun. The engine died and the car couldn’t restart marking.

Understandably Marti was quite frustrated, his speed is quite obvious, but he’s lacking the race experience which can be gained only through more racing.
